II.A. Public Relations (Community and Customer)

Course Description:
 
      The Public Relations training course is designed to provide the learner with an intermediate level of understanding of the complexities involved with public relations. In addition, this course will enable the Security Officer to understand their contribution to the work site in which they are assigned; ranging from personal interaction with employees to effective communication between their employer and the company they are contracted to serve. This is a 4-hour course and is a prerequisite towards the 40 hours of required training by the State of California.
 
 
 
Learning Goals:
 
  • The officer will be provided with an understanding of the proper attitude, appearance and conduct of a security professional.
  • The officer will be provided with an understanding of a Code of Ethics for private security employees.
  • The officer will be provided an understanding of excellent customer relations and how that affects their performance and that of their employer.
  • The officer will be given knowledge of conditions that indicate an individual may be suffering for mental illness.
  • The officer will be provided with an understanding of the security control measures for crisis situations.
  • The officer will be provided the definition of substance abuse as well as an understanding of the effects of substance abuse in the workplace, including the physical and mental changes that may indicate a substance abuse problem.
  • The officer will be provided with an understanding of what constitutes harassment as well as provided with the knowledge of federal state laws and company policies that pertain to sexual harassment, and the liabilities that can result from it.
  • The officer will be provided with a definition of prejudice and discrimination as well as the causes and effects.
